Personal Statement
My name is Catherine, but I go by “Cate” or “Catie”. I am the youngest of three kids in my family. I began playing soccer around the age of 3, through a local micro mini soccer program. From there I continued into the local recreational soccer program. As I got older, I followed the footsteps of my older sister into the Regional Competitive area.
I started soccer at a very young age, encouraged by my mother, who coached many of my teams. As I got older, and as I began to develop as a player, it became relevant that this was the athletic direction I wanted. Throughout the recreation program I continued to excel. Since my older sibling was already competing at the RCL (Regional Club League) and having been a part of that program through her for many years, it made sense for me to join as well. Once I reached the age of 11, we then decided to step up into that same arena.
I played at the District/Select level for the first 3 seasons when I became a member of the Three Rivers Soccer Club. I began playing competitively at the age of 14 (2016-2017). I played basketball in middle school and competed in Track & Field. In track I compete in hurdles, 100 and 200 sprints, relays and the mile. In high school, I will be only playing Soccer and competing in Track & Field.
My primary goal is to attend a university where I can gain a Bachelors Degree in Sports Management, or Sports Science degree. My goal is to work with youth soccer athletes in a coaching capacity. Either way I would like to end up overseas, permanently. Of course, as my friends and family would say, I am crazy enough to make this happen.
My community involvement includes supporting the Athletic Boosters and Chamber of Commerce, helping with the annual Fun Run’s and volunteering for the two major events put on in our community. I also coach 3, 4, and 5 year old soccer. This is the same program where I began my soccer experience.
I am reaching towards universities that have the college degree that I am pursuing, regardless of location. This criterion is only to help me begin my college searches. As I become more familiar with the college types that I am researching, I am beginning to look more at the type of degree/program that colleges are offering.
