Personal Statement

Less than 1% of high school athletes play at the college level. That's a hard percentage to beat. Students who have the motivation, the drive and the ability to make it there, may not have what it takes in the academic field. Students who put the work and effort in the classroom may not have the skills to continue on into college. I'm here to tell you that I have both of those things, the drive in the classroom, and the drive on the field.

I started off the same as most little soccer players did. My parents signed me up when I was 5, and I've been playing ever since. (10 years). To be honest, at age 5 I didn't know that I wanted to be a college athlete...at that age, I wasn't even sure what college was! But I immediately knew that I wanted to keep playing soccer. I LOVED everything about the game! I wanted to be able to keep feeling what it's like to score goals, to be able to come home with a win, and to keep playing with a team. As time went on I started playing premier ball, and played many tournaments. I had my "lightbulb moment"-- I was going to play college soccer, no matter what the odds were! And I have not looked back since. I'm not the same as most teenage girls who've played soccer their whole lives. I have had setbacks and many trials to overcome. When I entered my freshman year at Graham Kapowsin High School, I made the JV team and was proud like any freshman would be. I worked hard, made the JV team and was also a starting player. The first game with my high school team I tore my ACL and my meniscus. It's a 9-12 month recovery and a brutal one. The pain is for a short amount of time, but the worst pain I felt was not being able to step onto the field with my cleats on and a ball at my foot ready to play with my team. That is a sad part of my soccer career, but I have learned through these past 10 months of recovery that I can still have the drive and motivation to step back on that field again even better than I was before. And that's exactly what I've been doing and will continue to do! My injury has made me a more empathetic individual and a more determined and focused player. I am a team player and I know that's part of the reason soccer is a good match for me. I am a leader. I have been team captain for every team I've played for. Former coaches have told me I have a great "eye" for the field, I see where it's going before it comes, and I know who needs the ball and what it's going to take for them to get that ball. In my personal life, being the oldest of 5 children in my family has taught me much about leadership, responsibility, and self-motivation.

Academically, my motivation in the classroom is the same as it is on the field. As I finished my freshman year, I have a 3.95 GPA out of 4.0. And seeing as I can always do better, that is what I will strive to do this upcoming year. Looking into the future, I am interested in 3 fields of study: medical (specifically nursing), Law (history, politics, and government), and Sports Medicine. Quite a range of interests, but I think it's important to keep my options open. I am looking for colleges mostly on the West side of the U.S, but am open to ANY college.

As a 15 year old girl from Washington State, I want to be seen. I want to be heard. And I will do what it takes to accomplish all of my goals!

I know I will be an asset to any college soccer program!

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
