Personal Statement
My goal has been to compete in collegiate level soccer ever since I started playing. Being a student athlete requires me to balance my time between academics, athletics and my extracurricular activities. I have been able to maintain a 4.0+ GPA, play soccer year-round, obtain my certification as a soccer referee and work as a referee. I have learned, over the years, to enjoy and love watching the game. When not on the field, I find ways to give back to the community. For example, I recently volunteered to build a playground for children at the Ronald McDonald House, and I participated in a week-long mission trip to improve living conditions in rural WV. Also, I assist with hosting, refereeing, and keeping time at one of the largest fundraisers for Cabell Midland High school Hot Winter Knights Indoor Soccer tournament every year.
My coaches have commented on my strong work ethic, and my ability to think fast under pressure in the back line. I have been taught, very well, how to win balls out of the air and quickly settle them. Also, as I mentioned before, being a referee has helped me to watch, study, and understand the game in a more detailed manner than when just playing. My teammates would say that I am drama free and easy-going, but my coaches call that “coachable”. Having a very open and adapting mind allows me to quickly adjust to any formation change during a game. Also, it helps me to improve my technical ability in the back, and get out of sticky situations. My time management skills, easy-going personality, and hard work ethic will help me to be successful both on and off the field.
