Personal Statement

My parents enrolled me in swim lessons at Lifetime Fitness when I was 8. I really enjoyed learning the four strokes involved with swimming, so I eventually started swimming competitively at 10 years old. Prior to this, I played several other sports including soccer, softball, and gymnastics. I also enjoyed playing other sports, but swimming is my passion. In 2017, I took a big leap in my swimming journey by joining Mesa Aquatics Club (MAC). During my first season at MAC, I made AZ state cuts and continued qualifying for cuts in other seasons. I love being a part of a great team that is respectful and courteous of others. I will be attending Desert Ridge my sophomore year of high school for a better opportunity for swim and academics.

I have taken advantage of the Covid-19 quarantine to get ahead in both swim and school. I have been running on my treadmill, spinning on my stationary bike, swimming in my backyard pool, and stretching more with videos provided by my club swim team. Living in Arizona already gives me an advantage because many households own pools, but I have been incorporating other workouts into my training other than swimming . Luckily gyms have reopened and I have been able to train in their 25-yard pools for a few weeks before my club swim team practices start-up again. In addition to swim, I will be taking two half-credit courses this summer including Government and Economics. Usually those courses are taken during Senior year of high school, but if I take them now I can take an extra engineering course during my Senior year. I have also taken this time to learn how to code in JavaScript and eventually Python. I aspire to have a degree in Computer Science at a college that fits me both academically and athletically.
