Personal Statement
At the age of one, my mother enrolled me in a "Mommy and Me" swim class at the local pool. After one session, I was determined that I did not want her help, so I would pull away from her to force her to let go of me. I loved the water and became a natural, and have practically lived in water ever since! I began swimming competitively with a summer team when I was seven and a club team when I was twelve. I enjoy the thrill of competing. It makes me feel like there's no one else around except me and the water. My parents have instilled in me the core values of my Catholic faith, which include a commitment to serving others, being kind and giving to all, and always doing the right thing. You may find swimmers that have a faster flip turn, that have a longer wing span, or have been club swimming far longer than I have. What you will not find is someone who is willing to work as hard as I do, and has the drive and motivation to train as hard as I do. When I commit to doing something, I give it my all and excel. I am focused and determined, and have been able to shave seconds off my best times in just months of hard training. I set both short and long term goals, and take strides in achieving them. I am a hard worker, enjoy training and gaining skills, and always finish strong. My dream is to pursue a degree in Biology and work with marine or aquatic animals.
