Personal Statement
If you are reading this, you already know I am a swimmer. I could tell you all the ways swimming has shaped my life, but what I want you to know about me is that I am so much more than a swimmer.
First, I’m a fierce competitor, both in and out of the water. While I love to compete, I don’t let the rush that comes from winning a race let me forget to appreciate the sport of swimming. I love that it is a sport that has a place for everyone.
Second, I have a positive attitude. I bring joy to my team by making people laugh, especially when things get tough. I like to push myself and others to be the best version of themselves. I challenge myself with big goals to keep myself going even through the rough times. My positive attitude keeps me going through practice and my strong work ethic helps me become better in and out of the water.
Third, I embrace my differences. I’m spunky and quirky and I like to work hard and have fun. It’s important to me that others feel included because I find enjoying the differences in people makes life more interesting.
I want to swim for a college that emphasizes team unity as well as academics. I’m excited to see what life holds for me and I think my personality traits would be useful assets to any team.
