Hi, my name is Mackenzie Peterson.
I began swimming with a recreational swim team when I was 10 years old. However, at the age of 13, I realized my passion for the sport and I joined a year-round swim team as I began high school. With this being said, swimming year-round allowed me to have some of my most successful years of swimming. Some of my greatest achievements are being the 2018 500 freestyle league champion, as well as the league champion in the 200 and 500 freestyle in 2019. I have been a three- year varsity swimmer and have received a leadership award every year.
With great accomplishments, I have also faced some setbacks. This past season I had bicep tendinitis in both of my shoulders and spent most of June and July in physical therapy. My dedication and commitment as an athlete showed in my physical therapy because I had a relatively fast recovery. Through this rehab process, I've learned the importance of doing dryland workouts and getting stronger in ways other than just swimming. I am looking forward to this upcoming Winter and Spring when I can swim to my full potential and pain-free. I am looking forward to my senior season and anticipate taking time off in both my 200 and 500 free. As I began my senior year, I will continue working hard in my studies and carry on the lessons I've learned about perseverance into college.
