Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Kaitlyn Hafer and in the graduating class of 2024 attending Grandview Highschool. I have been swimming for around 9 years, starting on a recreational team run through the Trails Recreation Center. I grew to love the sport within years and found myself searching for more competition. I ended up joining Denver Swim Academy in December of 2019 and have stayed with the team since. I have experienced incredible growth under Coaches Kevin Valenzuela, Jay Kim, Kirk Grand, and Nick Frasersmith in the last 2 years. I have swam on the varsity team at Grandview for my freshman and sophomore years at Grandview High School. I am a 100 and 200 breaststroke specialist able to compete in the 200 IM as well. I qualified for 5A High School State meet in Colorado for 2 years and placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke final this year and swam the 200 IM in the prelims session. I was not able to compete in the meet my freshman year due to COVID restrictions on meet capacity. I am currently aiming for my Futures and Junior Nationals cuts in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. In addition, I am looking to improve my mindset throughout practice and races in order to better support my teammates and myself through the difficult sets and workouts. I love the team building that comes with tough sets and strive to help create a more bonded team when I can.
I am currently interested in majoring in history, archaeology, or anthropology while attending an academically and athletically competitive school where I can grow both in and out of the water. I am looking forward to taking my first attempt at the SAT in the Spring of 2023 as well as the AP Exams for AP US History and AP Language and Composition.
