Personal Statement
Swimming has always captivated me. The powerful motion of the stroke, in combination with that competitive aspect of racing, makes for something truly special- a feeling you just can't get on land. For as long as I can recall, I knew that I wanted to hold onto this special sport and run with it as far as it will take me: to college. That proved to be the end game. I don't find it much of an ask to pour my time and energy into the sport, or into any other area of interest for that matter. I am fortunate to feel this way. Whether it be academics, swimming, my friends or family, I will work hard simply because I love to do so. The reward for hard effort is so much greater than any singular moment of pain or discomfort or disappointment. Busting a particularly stubborn PB, out-touching the swimmer next to you, or seeing your teammate doing the same, is unmatched. I strive for those moments. The elation that I feel from watching myself and others grow and thrive is truly unique.
Yet, as much as it proves important to put that time, that effort, into swimming, there are benefits to a healthy and balanced life. Balance in all aspects of my college experience is important to me; I know I swim and feel better when that is the case. I am slightly hesitant towards dedicating my entire college experience to swimming. I think it would be amazing to participate in the NCAA championships, if that could happen in addition to a well rounded college experience. Having a team that feels like family and treats each other with respect and kindness is also something that I hope to have.
