Personal Statement
Hi, I'm Jocelyn Jones. I recently moved to Colorado and I'm a senoir at Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs.
My Dad is in the Marine Corps. Being a military family we move often and I always make friends on the pool deck wherever we end up. I started swimming at age 9 after I saw the 2012 Olympics. I didn't realize that swimming was a sport that you could compete in and thought that it was so cool. That summer my mom taught me the strokes by watching YouTube videos and I tried out for the swim team. I stopped all the other sports I played to focus on swimming and it has always made me happy.
I am a very happy, positive, and cheerful person. I am a hard worker and I love making friends. I love cheering on my teammates and encouraging them. At swim meets I always manage to make a new friend from another team and now have friends all over the country. Living in the San Diego area I was given opportunities to participate on San Diego Imperial Swim committees and meetings, which was so awesome to know that some of my input helped my LSC. I also started playing water polo my freshmen year and it has been a blast. I never thought I'd play that sport but my swimming gave me a leg up and now it is one of my favorites. My whole high school experience has been centered on these two sports and I'm excited to continue that in college.
