Five years...sixty months...one thousand-eight hundred-twenty five days, time seems so little when broken down into bits, and yet seems so clear when my mind drifts back to my some of earliest experiences. Standing on a block, the warm summer sun baking my skin, parents cheering, my oversized suit dripping with chlorine, my heart racing. Even at five years of age, I had an overpowering sense to win. I could feel it build as I stepped onto the block, charged, a need to be the first to the wall. My competitiveness has always driven me, and has created a sense of determination, work ethic and grit that guides my daily life. Often this trait has been a beacon, a warm and familiar light. But at times, this quality has also broken my heart when barriers arose. However, over time in my short sixteen years, I have learned to harness disappointment, grow from it, empower it as a lesson learned.
As I move into the next chapter of my life, competitiveness is my foundational core. It makes me work harder, be better and reflect on goals that I set both in and out of the pool. As I read the mission from your team, my drive, willingness, collaboration and sportsmanship make me a good candidate. It is also my hope that the maturity and leadership I bring will continue to create a shared vision, and help the team accomplish its goals.
