Personal Statement
I want to stretch my limits and achieve my fullest potential in swimming and academics in college. I look forward expanding my world view and developing my inner self in an environment where I'm not always protected. I believe I bring a lot of positive energy that helps not only myself but my teammates. I've been told by my high school coaches that I lift up my team and help relieve them from their anxiety before competing or in practice. This characteristic I have is very important to me because during my 2nd and 3rd year of swimming I was suffering from excessive phlegm and excessive coughing as well as vocal cord dysfunction (where as you excersice harder your vocal cords start to shut). I knew that many other swimmers would cough but unlike them I would throw up constantly and my air ways would begin to shut. I was put in a very difficult position because of this and had a very negative mind set as time went on. I would say things to myself like "I can't take this anymore" or "Why am i the only one who is struggling". However once we found the right doctors and a diet that helped me improve I started to pick myself back up. This experience helped me a lot as a swimmer and as a person. I became more physically and mentally strong. I also changed my mindset and my thought process when it came to different situations in life. I didn't stress the small stuff anymore and learned to look at things with different scopes to fully understand them. My lively and optimistic personality as well as my ability to help others' mentality is something any college team would like to have.
