Since I was three years old, swimming has always been a major part of my life. My parents encouraged me to try other sports throughout the years (including: softball, cross country, volleyball, horseback riding, tennis, ballet, etc.), but I always stuck with swimming. When I was 11, my swim instructor encouraged me to try out for a competitive team. I not only made the team, but found the sport that I was determined to stick with. Within two years, I advanced to the Senior Squad, the highest competitive level of our team.
There are three main things I value most—my family, my education, and my swim teammates. All three came into play about two years ago as I worked to overcome a back injury. Through physical therapy, the physical aspect of my injury was easy to bounce back from, but I found the mental piece was more challenging. With the support of my teammates and my family I was able to find the perseverance to continue with my passion. This sparked a personal interest in becoming a physical therapist so that I can help others move past their own setbacks. Through collegiate swimming, I know I can continue with the sport that has been such a main focus in my life, further develop my leadership skills, and reach my career goal of becoming a physical therapist.
