Personal Statement
I have been swimming competitively since I was 10. In just my second year of swimming I qualified for age group state in the 50 and 100 free. Currently, I have attended this meet for five consecutive winter seasons and only attended two summer states. I specialize in sprint freestyle and the 100/200 butterfly. But, I’m always continuing to progress in all other events.
As an athlete I like to balance out my focus towards my dedication to the team and my personal goals. In my eyes, both are equally important and they add to the success of the other. I find that time management is another one of my strong suits. Over the past year I was able to excel in swimming, but also hold my near 4.0 GPA the entire school year. Also, along with my management skills, comes my dedication. It is extremely rare for me to miss a practice whether it is morning or evening.
What might make set me apart from other recruits is that I know what I want to major in. I have observed that a lot of high school students do not know what they want to focus on. Since I know what I want I am able to better focus in school and not be jumping around. In return, I won't be distracted from swimming. Additionally, I know that in society today diversity is very important, at least in my eyes. As an athlete and student I am able to add diversity to the school. I am biracial; half Asian and Caucasian.
Swimming in college has been something I've known I was going to do since I started to swim and will continue to be one of my highest goals. I love having the support of both friends and family mixed together. So, having that type of support all through college would be extremely fun, but also quite beneficial to my academics and swim success.
