Personal Statement
In 2008, I moved to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates from Austin, Texas, where I was born. I have lived in the region as a result of my father's employment for most of my life. The experience of growing up in Abu Dhabi has exposed me to a wealth of cultures and people that have allowed me to have a very broad view of the world. Abu Dhabi has also sheltered me from many issues that have developed in the United States over the last few years, but it also has allowed me the opportunity to see the United States from a much different viewpoint.
Overall, I am a very open-minded person who thrives in diverse environments because of the exposure to an international community represented by over 80 nationalities I have been exposed to while attending Raha International School in Abu Dhabi. This exposure and being a high-performing student-athlete in an international baccalaureate school makes me a unique and ideal candidate for any university and their swim team. I have a demonstrated ability to manage both the demands of a rigorous academic program as a diploma-level student and be one of the best competitive swimmers in the UAE. Despite these academic and athletic achievements, the thing that is most important to me is my ability to be resilient and determined in a country that does not allocate equitable resources to support women's sports. These limitations have propelled me to compete outside traditional competitions to develop swimming skills that will allow me to compete at the next level.
My primary goal as a student-athlete would be to contribute to the team by being a supportive team member while demonstrating leadership qualities that emphasize decision-making that focuses on academic achievement and being a competitive, supportive team member that puts the team in a position to win national championships and divisional titles.
