Personal Statement
Hi! When I first jumped into the pool I thought swimming 25 yards was the hardest thing ever and I wanted to quit. I never thought of swimming more than 50 yards much less a 500 or 1000 yard event. To make things tougher, I discovered competitive swimming close to 12 years of age, much later than most. But I came to the pool each day and worked hard at my technique and endurance level. I saw my speed steadily increase which gave me hope and respect for the sport. In recent years I have fallen in love with mid and distance freestyle. I have trained hard with challenging sets and also keep in shape in the gym in my off time. My classmates think I am nuts but I really love it. I love the feeling of accomplishing my goals. The adrenaline of competition, the soreness from training, and meeting my goals make me feel more alive.
I am inspired to swim at the college level. I know that you only have the opportunity to swim in college once and I would love that chance. I have always given my best to all my coaches no matter how hard it gets or how sore my body feels. I like being a motivator for my teammates and get them hyped up for meet day. When you have a positive mindset you can accomplish all you want. I would like to be remembered for how hard I worked to achieve my goals, how I encouraged my team and most of all keeping true to my core values.
