Personal Statement
Ever since I was four years old, I have played sports. However, I only really became invested in swimming at 11 years old, when I decided to join a local club team. A few months after I joined, the head coach noticed me at a practice, and he pulled me into his advanced practice group. Less than 12 months later, I qualified for my first Maryland State Championship meet. With hard work and dedication, I was able to meet a goal that I once thought was out of my reach. Since then, swimming has been my sole sporting focus and a large portion of my life.
Throughout my high school career, I have pushed myself in both academics and athletics. I plan to continue doing so in college, with a program that will challenge me academically as well as athletically. Even with my current heavy workload from rigorous courses and swimming, I am proud of the fact that I have been able to give back to my community through volunteering at Special Olympics, leading in my church’s altar serving program, mentoring at my high school’s engineering camp, and representing my school at the Archdiocese of Baltimore High School Leadership Institute. I’m confident that my hard work, academic drive, leadership and pursuit of swimming excellence can make a positive impact on your team both inside and outside the pool.
