Personal Statement
My friends call me Cece; I am a junior at Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Michigan. My swimming journey began when I learned to swim at 2 years old. Swimming isn’t just what I do, it’s a big part of who I am and will always be a part of my life.
I currently swim for the Birmingham Blue Dolphins, for Coach Mike Wind, a demanding, and rigorous program that has pushed me daily to become the swimmer, and the person I am today. I also swim for my high school, under Coach Karl Hodgson. Each program has taught me a lot about myself and has challenged me in different ways.
I have transitioned back to swimming for the Dolphins after training with the Oakland Live Y'ers under Jeff Cooper for 7 years. My class schedule and work load has become very challenging and has lead me to make the decision to swim for a club closer to home, giving me more time to focus on academics and less time traveling to and from practice. I have also competed as a varsity swimmer as a freshman, sophomore, and junior. High school swimming has been an incredible experience. I have been part of the Seaholm state team for the past three years, and a major highlight was when our 2016 team won the Division 2 state championship my sophomore year and I contributed with my best times in the 500 and 200 free.
I am looking forward to hitting my full potential in my swimming career and building on the hard work at the collegiate level.
Swimming has taught me the value of hard work and what it takes to accomplish my goals. It has demanded that I am an organized, hard worker who is capable of juggling school, practice and experiencing life as well. I have always lived my life with a positive attitude knowing that if I approach a situation with optimism I will overcome any challenge. This has lead me to have a positive outlook on life, swimming, friends and family. Each of my coaches would describe me as; hard working, dedicated and my favorite…a big meet swimmer. College swimming has always been a dream of mine, and knowing that that dream can come true is very exciting.
