Personal Statement
As a toddler, my mom would let me play in the sink for hours. She noticed that I enjoyed any activity that involved water. Water was very calming to me. As I grew up my mom would watch my sisters and I play in the pool for hours. I wanted to move from the "kiddie pool" to the "grown up" pool. My mom agreed and decided to put me in swim school. My swim teacher saw my desire to progress and I moved through the program quickly. After I completed the program, my swim teacher encouraged me to join a swim club. I still remember my first club practice. I was in awe watching the older swimmers practice. I knew I wanted to be like them when I got older. I loved hearing the loud sounds of the water as they swam and the quietness as they hit the wall and made their flip turns. I still love this sound and it inspires me each day.
Now, I am finally the "older swimmer" and I am about to embark on my college future. I would love to swim on a college team. I know I would make a great addition to a team because I am a leader but also an encouraging and supportive teammate. I bring leadership but also laughter. My swimming is full of reflection, determination, and excitement. I have been swimming since I was 7 years old and I still seek new ways to improve my stroke and technique. Each practice is used as an opportunity to improve and learn. I put forth my best effort in school and swimming.
I have participated in swim both club swim and high school varsity swim. Swimming is a sport that gives me an opportunity to trust my coaches, training, and most importantly, myself. Swimming lessons can be applied to all areas of life. There will be swims that are beautiful and some swims that remind me to be humble. I swim all year because I love being in the pool with my friends and I love challenging myself daily. I plan to major in entertainment arts. Specifically, a storyboard artist at a major animation studio. I would love to attend a school that provides both art and swim. They are both my passions. I am excited to see what the future of school and swim holds for me one day.
