Personal Statement
I have been competitively swimming for the Muskegon YMCA Swim Team since I was nine years old. When I first started swimming, I never thought that I would have this amazing opportunity to hopefully swim in college some day. I joined the swim team thinking that it would be just a fun sport to take part in during my free time. I never realized that it would become my favorite thing to do and that competing would make me so unbelievably happy. The coach of my club swim team recently asked me to be the Athlete Delegate of my team and I accepted. As the delegate, I was invited to be apart of the “Michigan Swimming Athletes’ Committee”. This committee is a way to increase communication between athletes from other teams, Club Athlete Delegates, and the Board of Directors. I was also assigned the All Conference award for my team this year at our conference meet.
Over the years that I have been swimming, I have become very competitive and determined to get better. I think that I have what it takes to swim at the college level. I have the technique and the times, but I also have the sportsmanship and the encouragement for my team mates. I am always cheering and trying to get my team ready and excited for their next race.
During school, I always study and work hard to keep my grades high and polished. I almost always participate in any extra credit opportunities to keep my grade at the 3.9 GPA that I have now. I’ve maintained an “all A’s” report card throughout middle school and high school and I plan on keeping it that way.
I want to be apart of a college that can help me to become better in my swimming and my grades. I want to be pushed inside and outside the classroom so that I am always succeeding. It would be amazing to find a college that is very competitive because I always do better with competition. I am open to any colleges and I am very excited to see the choices that I have. My ultimate goal is to make my parents, family, and peers proud of me and maybe even become their role models.
