Personal Statement
Growing up with pretty severe asthma, I found it difficult to do many sports. My mom tried to put me through roller skating and ice skating, but my clumsy nature was unsuited for those two sports. Then we found swimming as a way to help me expand my lung capacity and to exercise. The first team I ever swam on was OLY Swimming, and I have swam for them for the past 9 years and it has really become a second family for me. With my family and friends at OLY, I continue to grow and refine my skills and look forward to improving myself in every aspect that I can. In the past few years, I have learned so much in the swimming process to help me develop a strong mindset thanks to my coach, Jeff Cooper, and my friends. By achieving the right mindset, I can continue to improve myself and motivate my fellow teammates. In many instances, it's not about focusing on cuts and on the times I have to go, it's about a return to the basics: finding the fun in the process of learning and racing.
Although our school does not have class ranks, I have continuously excelled in all my classes, and continue to do so. My hard work in class is also reflected in my ACT score (35). I actively participate in school activities including Chemistry Club, National German Honors Society, National Honors Society, and Link Leaders. All of these activities, coupled with my intense training schedule has helped me manage my time and schedule greatly. I hope to continue to swim in college in order to continue to help me balance my lifestyle. I also hope to spread my positive energy and cheer to my future college team!
