Swimming is a very important part of my life. Through swimming, I have learned a lot about humility, sportsmanship, and empathy. Swimming appealed to me when I was young because the pool was a sweat-free environment. Ten years later, the pool represents so much more than a seemingly fun sport- it represents hard work, friendship, drive, and achievement.

Lessons learned in the pool carry over into the classroom. The competitive drive required by any sport contributes to a high-achieving academic attitude. With this drive I work hard in school to keep a high GPA and try my hardest at anything I do outside of school and swim. Swimming has also contributed to a higher level of personal discipline, time management, and overall work ethic, which I apply to my academics and athletics.

Though swimming is considered an individual sport, my team feels like family to me. The bonds I have created not only with my teammates, but also with many of my competitors throughout the years are sure to last for years to come.

I am looking for a school that offers a competitive atmosphere both in academics and athletics. The school's culture and atmosphere are important considerations in my college selection process. Equally important are the compatibility and relationships I will create with the coaching staff, advisors, and teammates.
