My goals for my college swimming career are to drop times, become a stronger swimmer in and out of the pool and to form new bonds with my teammates. Some of my best qualities are that I’ve have grit, I’m hardworking, determined, friendly and I never quit. The odds may be stacked against me but I will push all the negative thoughts aside and work hard to meet my goals. Sometimes I don’t want to get up and swim at 6 AM but I tell myself that when I’m behind the blocks, I’ll remember that great morning practice I had. This will push me in my races to do the very best that I can do. Reminding myself and my teammates that, no matter what time you go, swimming’s all about having fun and when you don’t get a best time it just means you have to push harder in practice, I believe is the key to a positive team atmosphere. My academics are something that I am very proud of also. I might not be in the AP or Honors classes but I am getting outstanding grades in my Accelerated classes. I have never failed a class because I have learned through the years to manage my time in a way that allows me to swim and do school at the same time. I try and be as positive about my situation as possible, even if I have practice and lots of studying, I go over what I have in my head during practice as a way of mini studying throughout my workouts. I’d also like to think of myself as a positive attitude in practices; like when a hard set is just around the corner and no one wants to do it. I tell them that once we get through it, we’ll look back and be proud that we went through all that pain. I strongly believe that I can bring a positive environment to the team, lots of fast swimming, a determination like no other and a growth mindset that will allow me to continuously get better throughout my swimming career.
