Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Jami Fuson and I am a junior at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. Swimming has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have been swimming for the Schenectady Saratoga Sharks for 10 years. Throughout the past decade of striving for the best in both sports and academics, I have learned how to manage my time, balance one with the other, and develop leadership skills. Continuing to swim every day and take honors classes has also taught me the importance and value of working together as a team, putting my best in everything, and, especially, making sacrifices.
In January 2020, I got tendonitis in both of my shoulders. Although it was a minor setback, it caused me to reestablish balance, focus, and realize the importance of leadership. I showed up to every meet during the 6 weeks I couldn’t swim to cheer on my teammates and I saw improvements in their performance. Back to normal and continuing to push myself in my races at meets again, I continue to be a cheering leader as many of my teammates have joined in. Working together as a team has a bigger impact than working individually for goals: not only in club swim, but in varsity swimming as well. I’m looking forward to attending a program that is a good fit for me, while continuing my swimming career and high academic achievements. As an honor student and year-round club swimmer, I know I have what it takes to continue great teamwork, and push myself and my peers to strive to be the best in everything we do.
