Personal Statement
My name is Alyssa Bourquin. I began swimming at 6 months old, taking lessons for safety purposes. My love for swimming grew out of these lessons. I started competitive swimming at 7 years old for the Levittown Swimming Association, an outdoor competitive summer league. After that first season, I realized I wanted to continue to swim during the winter months. I then joined St. Bernards CYO Swim Team. I still had the need and passion for another team. When I was 9 years old, I then joined the Bethpage Barracudas Swim Club. I continue to swim for all of 3 of these teams and now swim at the high school varsity level as well. This is my second season on the MacArthur High School varsity swim team (Levittown District Swim and Dive Team) in Levittown, New York. This past summer, I had the chance to work with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Long Island. I help teach kids my own age how to swim, who have never swam before. I found this to be a rewarding and gratifying experience, knowing I used the skills that have been taught to me to teach them.
My times and techniques prove that I am a very competitive swimmer. I strive to be the very best I can, academically and in my swimming career. My overall goal is to attend college, and excel in my swimming career.
