My name is Margaret (aka Maggie) Victory. Since I have been swimming since I was 3 years old, I guess you could say I caught the "swimming bug" a long time ago. Other sports were there along the way (soccer and lacrosse ), but swimming is where I found my passion. I am hoping to continue my passion in a program where I can continue to grow as an athlete while pursuing my high academic goals for a great education. Swimming has taught me so many things like how to be disciplined, focused , how to prioritize my goals, and how to deal with both success and failure. I think that most colleges swim coaches are in search of the athlete that is the complete package, not just a great swimmer. One that is a great teammate, someone that excels in both the pool as well as the classroom, and a person that gives back to their team and their community. I believe that I possess all of those characteristics. I have excelled in academics throughout my HS career. I have maintained a 4.0 all through HS, taking AP, honors and accelerated courses, while swimming year round with my club, swimming HS, working, volunteering my time, and participating in both academic and service clubs at school. I was honored that my HS teammates have chosen me to be next years Captain- Leader and I will also be the President of the Key Club at my school. This will be my second summer teaching kids to swim at a camp and I also recently started to volunteer my time every week coaching Special Olympics. I originally started coaching the swimming and basketball athletes for Special Olympics but ended up having such a great time that I have now continued with the program and I am coaching track and field as well. Watching these athletes overcome their disabilities by teaching them skills has been an amazing experience. Now I am looking for a college program that is going to help me grow as an athlete. For the last couple of years I felt that breastroke was my strongest stroke, but I felt the need to add more to my swimming resume and I needed to get out of a rut. And with that desire, freestyle has been another focus for me over the last year. I am starting to see the results from all the hard work, changes in my stroke with concentration on my technique. Change is never easy but as my body changed I knew I needed to make adjustments in my swimming if I wanted to succeed.
I have had the great opportunity to swim at the summer league level since the age of 5, high school level since 8th grade and with my year round club - Badger Swim Club for the last five years . On a daily basis, I am challenged by training with world class athletes and college swimmers when they are home in the summer and on breaks. Access to these athletes has helped me develop my passion for the sport as well as my work ethic both in the pool and out of the pool. I am looking forward to my next steps or laps in the pool.
