My name is Kayla Shannon and I'm a backstroker from White Plains, NY. I have been on my varsity team at White Plains High School since 7th grade and competitively swimming since I was 5. This year, my sophomore season, I received all-league and all-section honors. Recently, I have qualified for Eastern Zone Speedo Sectionals and NCSA Junior Nationals with the Gael Aquatic Club. I also competed in the New York State Championships. Swimming has always been a huge part of my life and it is something I have dreamed of pursuing in college ever since I was little.
For college, I ideally see myself at a large school in areas like the Southeastern United States. I have always viewed myself at a large university because I live in a very large town with approximately 2,500 students at my high school. Academics have always been of great importance to me, and I have learned throughout the years how to balance being a dedicated student and swimmer. Optimally, I would like to compete at the Division I level at a school that will push me to where I want to be in swimming, as well as academically.
