Personal Statement
Between my grandparents living on Lake Norman and my family owning a lake house on Smith Mountain Lake, you could say that I’ve grown up in and around the water. However, I didn’t start competitive swimming until I was six years old, when I was signed up for my neighborhood summer league team, the Lake Jeanette Lightning. I’d never had any formal training before, but it was evident from my first meet that I had a natural talent for swimming.
For all of my life, I’ve been a little shy and quiet. However, on the pool deck, all of that changes. On the pool deck I’m outgoing, bubbly, encouraging, and a strong leader. Through swimming, I’ve learned that I don’t have to be the shy and quiet girl I used to be. I am looking for a program that can provide me with the academic as well as athletic challenges that I need. I believe that I have the dedication, personality, and leadership skills to make a seamless transition into a college program while also beginning to impact the team as a whole. Through years of learning who I am and who I can be through swimming, I know that I have what it takes to enter a college program and be an immediate leader.
