Personal Statement

   Hi, I´m Gwen Elsey and I am a junior at Hickory High School. I have been a captain of my high school team for two years and I have also been a member of the Shenango Valley YMCA swim team for 12 years. Besides swimming, I am a member of Kiwanis Club and I am also involved in my schools volunteer program called Silver Cords. Most of the hours I spend volunteering have been done at my church, at a soup kitchen, or at an animal shelter. On weekend I spend my time swimming, lifting, and working at a frozen yogurt shop.  I am a self driven and motivated athlete and always push myself to reach my goals. My favorite thing about swimming is not always competing, but its the journey leading up to competition. I love going to practice everyday and seeing how hard I can push myself and the same applies in the weight room.

    • I am involved in our schools volunteer program called Silver Cords. This is a program where the students must go out to different locations on their own and help with projects to help better the community. Some of the things I do is work at a low income/ homeless lunch and server food. I also volunteer at a local animal shelter and help care for some of the dogs. In addition to Silver Cords

    • I am a member of Kiwanis Club. In Kiwanis Club we have visited nursing homes and helped out with special needs children. Within Kiwanis this last year
