Personal Statement
Hello coaches! My name is Gabbie Ahrendt, and I have been swimming since I was seven years old. From the beginning I have always loved the sport. As a kid I liked being part of a team and making new friends. Now, as I grow I continue to enjoy the team aspect but also thrive in the individual part, as well.
I come from parents who took part in multiple sports throughout high school and went on to become a business owner and physical therapist. Because of my dad‘s profession within the business world, he taught me to give 110% effort in not only swimming but also academics. This has led me to become a straight A student. I am taking honors and AP classes, and in college I hope to major in pre-med and become a doctor.
In addition to being a hard worker, I also have a competitive spirit, which helps me set and achieve goals. Being competitive has pushed me to work harder than everyone else, and it gives me an extra boost at the end of close races. It has also shown me endless possibilities and opportunities and is one of my personality traits that is encouraging me to swim at a D1 level.
Right now I am one of the top South Dakota 17 -19 year old female swimmers in multiple races. As I finish out high school, I hope to acquire two or more futures cuts and keep competing against out of state teams. All in all, because of my work ethic, competitive spirit, and goals, I think that I would be a great asset to a program and would be able to contribute not only athletically, but academically too.
