When I was 8 my parents signed me up for our local club team where I quickly fell in love with the sport of swimming. Since then I have swum competitively on a club team, and I joined my school team as soon as I was able to in 7th grade.
During my freshman and sophomore years, I was part of the Logos Prepatory Academy Women's Swim Team, which won the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Division 3 state championship both years. I qualified in the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Both years I placed in the top eight, and my goal is to do so again this year. In my sophomore year, I was also part of the 400 women’s freestyle relay which placed first overall.
This past summer I suffered a back injury and I am actively working through it. To do this I work with a physical therapist, strength and conditioning coach, and a stroke coach each once a week. Additionally, I complete at-home physical therapy exercises before and after swim practices.
Throughout the school year, I regularly attend both school and club swim practices. This past school season, I was given the opportunity to serve as an assistant coach to help integrate our new swimmers into the team. I am also a part of the National Honor Society, and I earn service hours for the organization by teaching little kids how to swim. In addition, I take AP and Dual credit courses with a focus on advanced math and science.
In college, I plan to study engineering. I took a dual-credit “Engineering Your World” course my freshman year and learned that it is something I would like to do in the future. My favorite unit was civil engineering where we were given the task of constructing a building that would pass the earthquake task. Throughout the course, I was given the opportunity to learn about several different fields of engineering, but look forward to college and determining which is the best for me.
