I moved from Northern California to Vermont in 8th grade and immediately joined the swim team. I fell in love with it from the beginning and it came pretty naturally to me. I continued to drop time and love it more every day until the summer between my freshman and sophomore year, when my lower and middle back began to bother me. I pushed through for several months until the pain became so unbearable that I had no choice but to take some time off.
Taking this unexpected break was not easy and I had to replace the time that I would have spent in the pool, gym or car on the way to meets or team functions, with something else. I traveled to Haiti to continue my passion with helping those less privileged than myself, I started triathlon training and continued working on my mind and body, I took classes that I otherwise would not have taken, and found new hobbies such as tennis!
Finally, after a year and a half away from the pool, I have started again and feel great! I have been back in the water for about two months now and though we have not had an official meet, my practice times are already very close to where they were before. I am a hard worker and determined to continue to push myself to get continue to improve my times and keep getting faster.
