Personal Statement
I first began competitively swimming at the age of eight years, for Gold’s Aquatics Club in 2009, and continued to swim with them until 2018. When I swam for this club I had achieved 11 individual team records, and 6 relay records. Before swimming for Golds, I played multiple other sports (Soccer, Golf, Gymnastics, Ballet), but overall found a love for swimming. With relation to a diverse amount of sports, I fully understand what it takes to achieve goals, also the commitment that is needed in order to perform to the highest strength. Hereafter, I continued swimming and progressively continued to reach higher standards. I was one of the youngest, as a 13 year old, to move into the Senior group at this club. At 14 years old, I qualified for three large meets in a row. In the Summer of 2016 I swam Senior Long Course Champs on July 20th, Age Group Long Course Champs on July 28th followed by Western Senior Zones on August 1st. These three meets in a row show my dedication for this sport and that I am willing to test my limits. At each of these meets I swam the exact same six events and understood what it was going to take to accomplish this. I am aware of what I need to do as a swimmer in order to perform well, and I know that everything in this sport takes effort and a positive outlook.
The Western Senior Zones Meet in Clovis California came with a great amount of experience; this was the first time I swam unattached under Pacific Northwest All-Stars team. This experience gave me much knowledge and helped grow as an overall athlete; to try new meets outside of what I’m used to; it also gave me the opportunity to meet other swimmers who had the same interests as me. When I turned 15 years old I was eligible to go to 68th Annual Husky Invitational. I had individual events at Speedo Sectionals at Federal Way, Senior Champs and completed my second year as a Senior Western Zones All-Star. After being on Gold’s Aquatics Club for almost 8 years, I wanted to strive for something different; therefore I joined Cascade Swim Club. I realize having a close and connected team is important, and I always want to aspire to continue being the team mate that is supportive and positive, someone who can motivate others during tough sets. Now, at the age of 16 I have elevated goals, and a main focus of where I want to be with my swimming career. At Senior Sectionals, I made my first Futures cut in the 500 free; which has been a goal I have been working toward for the past two years. I have held myself accountable for this goal, and will keep this accountability for all events I am swimming in.
During college I hope to one day make it to the Olympics or the World Championship meet. I understand that this takes extreme commitment, time management and self-discipline. I am confident that I can do all these, and continue managing a life as a student-athlete in college. I know I still have things to improve on, and would love the opportunity to continue growing as an athlete at college. In college I hope to break records, and individually make best times and help support my team, as they support me. I feel like I display all the right characteristics each day in and out of the water and I am excited to see where my swimming career will be elevated to, in the future.
