Personal Statement
I started swimming when I was very young. I have always enjoyed being in the water and now have grown to love the excitement of competition. I have been participating in competitive swimming since I was eight years old, but that was limited to summer swim team because I was involved in another sport. In sixth grade, I decided to make swimming my top priority sport and started swimming competitively year round. Since then I have been swimming with Badger Aquatics Club (BAC) in the winter and spring and the Middleton Gators in the summer. Since beginning high school in 2015 I have been swimming for the Middleton High School Cardinals in the fall. I enjoy swimming a lot more than any other sport I have tried. It interests me in a way no other sport does and pushes me to my limits physically and mentally. Swimming also lets me concentrate on the present moment and helps decrease my stress levels. I have made very close friends and connections with my swim teammates and coaches. My main stroke/event is the 100 breast, however my other favorite events include the 200 IM and the 200 breast.
Aside from swimming, my academic interests consist of English related topics. Other interests I would like to explore more is Psychology and Criminology. In eighth grade I was honored as a top ten finalist in the Yahara River Young Writers program in the short story category among all Middle Schools in Southeast Wisconsin. I am also a member of the National Charity League (NCL) which is a Mother/Daughter philanthropy organization for girls in grades 7-12. Through NCL, I volunteer regularly within the Madison area helping the elderly, Veterans, and those less fortunate. Not only does NCL give me opportunities for volunteer work, but it teaches me responsibility and the importance of teamwork. This is something I think I am very good at personally; I am a great team player. I enjoy being part of a team, working toward a common goal, and supporting my teammates in their goals. I am a very hard worker not only in my swimming career but my academics as well. I have been on the Honor Roll since 6th grade. I approach problems and goals I wish to achieve with determination and consistency. I would like to attend a school where I can pursue what I love to do along with continuing to swim and achieve success with a swim team.
