Personal Statement
My second day on this planet was very trying because I had to have open-heart surgery. Then, months later, I had to have a second one! The doctors told my parents I would most likely be unable to keep up with the pace of other kids in sports. Today, I have defied the odds and play competitive tennis, leading my high school team into the CIF finals and moving up from Division 4 to Division 2. My mom introduced me to the sport at the age of five, immediately falling in love with it, and my appreciation for the game has only heightened during my years of high school tennis. Being on a team has taught me the importance of camaraderie and supporting and respecting my teammates and coaches.
Having a composer for a father, who exposed me to the world of music, was instrumental in shaping my perspective in life. To improve and succeed both in my recitals and matches, he taught me how to relax and “be in the moment”. There are so many nuances to the game of tennis and piano playing and I am constantly trying to develop and maintain a rhythm and groove on the keys, the court and life.
Academically, psychology and music are my fields of interest and I would like to further explore these studies in college including the field of Intelligence. From my life experiences, I know I can bring my skills of mental and physical endurance, perseverance and a fighting spirit. Additionally, receiving the coach's award twice demonstrates my sportsmanship, character & dedication to the team. I am confident, that I am the ideal athletic candidate for your sports program!
