My name is Cameron Bailey and I am a seventeen year old girl. I attend Capital Christian High School in Sacramento, California and am currently a sophomore. I am number one on Varsity for girls singles, and was number two my freshman year. Ever since I was a child tennis has been my outlet. When I am playing no one or nothing else in the world matters. It’s me, a ball, a racquet, and an opponent. It is as if I have the world in my hands.
One thing that differentiates me from most players is I have never had a professional coach. If ever I have needed practice I do it on my own. I have a bucket full of balls that I lug with me to the spare time club I am members at, and do my thing. My coach throughout my life has always been my dad. He works two jobs and has helped my mom raise a family, yet has made time for the last ten years to hit with me each night. The only time I have ever received professional tennis instruction is from a few week tennis program at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club, and two Nike Tennis Camps. All in all you could say I have been pretty independent.
Another thing I enjoy doing is community service. This past summer I had an internship at a non profit orginaztion called Prpject R.I.D.E. I spent eight weeks there, and still continue to work with them. I did many different tasks including; cleaning, working with the kids and adults with disabilites, helped with different events, leading horses and lessons, and whatever they needed help with. It taught me lots of responsibilty and hard work. Interacting with the kids was my favorite part, because I learned that anyone can do anything with confidence. The kids had so much positivity and had no complains, and to this day I admire each and every one of them.
Throughout the summer I also was employeed at College Greens Cabana Club as a tennis instructor. I was the one and only head tennis coach. It was very challenging, having there be a 14:1 ratio, but it was a blast! It was super fun teaching kids my favorite sport and passion.
Academically I maintain between a 3.0 and 4.0. Staying on top of school work and juggling sports can be tricky, but thank goodness there is Starbucks to keep me awake!
All in all I am looking for a college who sees the potential that I and others around see in me. I have been through quite a bit for a sixteen year old, and the thing that has kept me afloat for most of my life has and always will be tennis. It is my everything. It is my dream to play professional tennis and I will not ever give up trying to pursue that. I am easy to be around, unquestionably quite social, very coachable and hard working. I am a great team mate and am encouraging to others. “Success is not a destination, but the road that you're on. Being successful means that you're working hard and walking your walk every day. You can only live your dream by working hard towards it. That's living your dream.” -Marlon Wayans.
