My name is Rachel Black and I am a 17 year old junior from Valdosta, GA. The goal I have for my collegiate career is to grow as both a player and a person. I am looking for a school that will allow me the opportunities to improve in all aspects of who I am. I am searching for a valuable bond within the team and the coaches. I believe having these relationships allows a team to push each other while learning from one another.
What sets me apart from other recruits in character is my morals and leadership skills. I am extremely involved in my community, and this has allowed me to learn many valuable life lessons. I am a graduate of the Leadership Lowndes class of 2022, which is an organization in Lowndes County that works with youth in order to build better leaders. I graduated as the Class President and the Barnabus Award Winner. I am also heavily involved in FCA, as the Vice President is my role. I was also honored by being selected to be the 2023 FCA Athlete of the Year at Lowndes High School.
In my athletics, I am set apart by my ability to be coached. Being coachable allows me to expand and find new ways to excel in tennis. I have a natural athletic ability which allows me to adapt and improvise. My entire tennis career I've been coached by past college players, since there is not any type of an academy or program where I am from. I believe that in college I will be able to improve my game dramatically with a high level of coaching. What I truly believe sets me apart on the court, is my positive attitude. I obtain a strong mental toughness that allows me to keep my composure throughout the ups and the downs. My composure grants me the ability to play my best throughout my match, as well as being respectful to others. I received the Sportsmanship Award Selection at the 2019 GA State Jr Fall Open State Champs - GA Level 2. I am a team player and a team leader! I've lead my high school team to two 7-A Region Titles as well as being named 1st team 7-A All Region #1 Singles my Freshman and Sophomore Year.
In the classroom, I've managed to maintain all A's with a 90 and above average. I have completed a Business Entrepreneurship Pathway and I am one class away from completing a pathway in Healthcare Science. I take all Honors and Advanced Placement Classes, and I am also in dual enrollment classes.
I am looking forward to this experience and the journey it will bring along the way. Thank you for your consideration!
