Personal Statement
My name is Kennedy Cross, and I’m a tennis player from Lee’s Summit, Missouri. I’m in the graduating class of 2019, and I play varsity tennis on my team at Lee’s Summit West High School. Last year, my team and I had achieved third at state. Not only was this the first time a team from Lee’s Summit West had gone to state, but this was the second year in a row that a team from Lee’s Summit had gone to state. Whenever I set a goal for myself I’m determined to accomplish it. When I first started to play on my schools’ team, I played novice, but I decided that I was not going to play novice the next year, and I spent a lot of off time to become better. When it was time for tennis season, I went from seventeen on the ladder to six, placing me on the varsity team, but tennis is not my only passion.
I am a driven student, and I'm in the IB Diploma program at my school. I love to push myself academically and physically. Not only have I lettered in tennis, but academically as well. I’m a part of several clubs, and I enjoy being a well-rounded student. I enjoy taking foreign languages, and I’m in a senior level French student as a Junior at my school. I hope to further my tennis playing skills into a college that allows me to deepen my skills both on and off the courts. I hope to attend a college that has a great tennis program, and both a political science and biology program. I’m excited to continue both my passions and to see what comes in store next!
