I began playing tennis in the second grade when I was 8 for fun. No one in my family had any history of playing, but they always supported me. Since that first lesson in second grade, I have immediately fallen in love with the sport. I played soccer for 8 years, lacrosse for 4 years, and currently play recreaction basketball for Portsmouth Rec Department. Each sport I have done has contributed to my performance on the court and my work ethic. Tennis has been a year-round part of my life for 8 years, and I have realized I am certain I want to play at the college level.
My most vital skill is my forehand placement and ability to keep calm. My leadership skills in high school tennis are something I am proud of. I was the captain of my high school team during my junior and sophomore years and took the position very seriously. I made sure everyone felt included, and I made sure to not only focus on myself but also help others learn. My forehand has come a long way and is now the strongest skill that I am most comfortable with. Many coaches and players have complimented my ability to keep a happy face even if the match isn't going my way. I am a hardworking person who is constantly looking for ways to improve her skill level. I would like to play at the college level and become part of a college team.
Tennis has always been a part of me, and I have worked hard to become better. I have always set goals for myself, even at a young age. When I was 10, I gave myself the goal of becoming the player I wanted to be. To achieve this goal, I played tournaments almost every weekend and was privately coached multiple times a week. I was also part of two summer leagues. I played for Wentworth Tennis for one year, and I have played for North Hampton Tennis for five years. Playing at a competitive level has helped me become better and get closer to my goal of playing at the college level. I play year-round, and during the school year, I play twice a week, which is 5 hours total. During the school tennis season in the spring, I play on varsity at the number one spot for Portsmouth High School. I have been playing for the number one spot for three years in high school and have maintained an impressive record.
Outside of the court, I am also a hard worker. I managed to keep my grades up, keep a high GPA, and stay on the honors roll. I was also nominated for the National Honor Society. I am a part of the Wellness Club, Unified Club, and Student-to-Student Club at my high school. I also volunteer once a week for three hours at a cat shelter. During the school year, I help my coach coach beginners in tennis. This has taught me unique skills. I have learned not only how to help others but also how to take a step back from my tennis and help myself independently.
I would like to be recruited to a college where I can continue to improve in tennis and keep up my work ethic on and off the court. I hope to study marketing and one day become a part of the business world. I am open to playing tennis anywhere on the East Coast at a college that is high-level and will continue to help my tennis journey. My goal for myself is to play tennis for a college where I can use my tennis skills and feel connected with my team.
