Personal Statement
My name is Laila Fishman and I am a junior at Marlboro High School in Monmouth County, NJ. One of my long-term goals is to play college tennis at a school that is intellectually, athletically, and socially a good fit for me.
Here is some information on my academic background. My high school calculates my weighted GPA, which is a 3.4 towards the start of my junior year. I was currently enrolled in a psat class, ending around the start of March. I plan on taking my second SAT in either September or October. This year I currently take Lab Environmental science, AP Psychology, Algebra 2, US History 2, English 3, Fine art 1, and Health 11. I plan on looking into my AP psychology class more in depth, hopefully there is some class of that sort for next year.
A majority of the time I spend my time after school on the court training and competing. I am currently a 3-star recruit and a 7.7 UTR. I typically play five times a week, including tournaments mainly every weekend. I had to stop playing tournaments for a period of time, because of high school tennis. This season we managed to go undefeated and win states. Winning states was a huge accomplishment for my team and I, and it was great to see what it was like working with a team. Our team was able to conquer Monmouth county vocational, sectionals, states, and much more. This year, I played second singles, as it was a very close tie for first. It gave me a great feeling of what it's like to play an important role on a team and working with other people. All in all, I take my studies very seriously, and I plan on doing much more with my tennis this year and next year as well.
