Personal Statement
I started playing tennis not too long ago, actually, this past fall season was the first time I've ever played. It was my first time picking up a racquet, and as soon as I did, I found my true love for tennis. Quitting Cross Country and Track is probably the best decision I made because I now realize what I want to do in the future. My best friend was the one that got me to join tennis since she was going to try it and I will forever be thankful that she convinced me. I started out as first doubles but it didn't fit for me and the girl, so my coach tried me at singles and I found my nitch. For the majority of the season, I played first singles for our team and took quite the beating but it never stopped me. Actually, I think not winning a single match really opened my eyes and honestly made me a better player. Looking back on it now, I realize that if I didn't lose all those matches, I wouldn't have wanted to put in more effort to do better. It pushed me to the limits of that eagerness, almost obsession, of wanting to become a better tennis player. It also built up my character because I realize that life isn't easy, you won't win everything. You need to work on your goals because honestly, it will be much more rewarding when you reach them. I now live by the motto, "Sometimes you have to get knocked down lower than you have ever been, to stand up taller than you ever were."
