Personal Statement

I played varsity tennis my freshman year. I train under former pro-player Vicki Dunbar (Nelson). I play in many USTA tournaments throughout the year. I was chosen to represent NEOTA for the Team Cup both 12U and 14U.

Academics are important to me as it is what I do in school that will determine the rest of my life. I work hard in the classroom. I am currently taking Honors Algebra 1 and plan to take other honor classes as well as college-level classes. However, it hasn’t been my honors algebra class that has taught me that sweat + sacrifice = success. It has been the hours of study and practices and the time and effort that has landed me up where I am today.

It has been said that little girls are made of sugar and spice, but this girl is made up of toughness, determination, heart, talent, and good character. I like to set my goals high and work very hard to achieve them both on the court and in the classroom. It takes more than just talent to be successful. It takes commitment and sacrifice. As Thomas Edison said, there is no substitute for hard work. Character is important. I strive to be the best person I can, but also want to help others succeed as well.

Being of good character is a value that has been instilled in me by my parents. My mom tells me to work on being the best version of myself. I also work on being a leader in helping others succeed and be their best. In keeping with good character, it is important to give back to one’s community. I was a member of Girl Scouts for 8 years. As part of earning my Silver Award, I wanted to raise awareness of hunger in my community. I began volunteering with Feeding Medina County. I helped with their once a month food distribution and organized two food drives. I also volunteered at Cups Café which is a non-profit community café for adults and youth. Menu items are offered free of charge. I learned that many people within my community depended on Cups for possibly their only meal of the day. I continue to volunteer at Cups Café.

I am looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically.
