Some kids are taught to be athletic and others are born with a gift of athleticism. I was born with a natural athletic ability and a gift for watching, learning and executing. After t-ball, I began playing softball year-round. I was a dedicated team player with a desire to win. As a freshman, I tried tennis as a way to help our family out. My mom had been a tennis coach for over 10 years, but never forced the sport on any of us. I was going to play volleyball the same season as my brother who played football and soccer, my mom's tennis season and my sister's senior year of softball. My mom asked me to play one year of tennis so she could be with one kid during the season. I instantly fell in love with the sport. I still play softball and cheer, but tennis is now my passion. Without a club within an hour drive, I make the sacrifices to travel an hour two to three days a week to work indoors. I expect tennis in college to be hard, but with my drive and desire to work, I'm certain I've trained for the challenge and look forward to an opportunity to work with colleges to find a new place at the next level.
I've spent the past year playing year round, working out before work or school, taking lessons, attending clinics and grabbing games with the top players in our area, while staying committed to my other responsibilities like family, church (Bible Study), school (A average), work (10-30 hrs/week babysitting and working at a t-shirt shop), 4-H (Junior Fair Board and market sheep), volunteering (Camp Counselor, Tennis Camp Coach, working with elderly), softball (travel and high school) and cheer (Varsity Basketball and Football).
I'm currently volunteering at a clinic for youth in our area, the first to be offered at our school, to help grow tennis as an option other than t-ball, softball and baseball. I want other kids to fall in love with the sport, young enough that they have an opportunity to grow with the sport.
