Personal Statement
My name is Cindy Xie and I am a junior at Freeman High School in Richmond, VA. I have been playing tennis for about 6 years now, and have found great joy in every ball I hit. I would love to continue tennis in the future and play competitively with like-minded peers around the nation. Tennis has helped me so much in my life, whether it was through allowing me to release my stress or through building up my mental game. My collegiate goals and aspirations involve having a balanced life with academics and tennis. I prioritize my academics and want to make sure I maintain good grades throughout the year, and I also believe that having a tennis season will allow me to keep my athleticism up while pursuing my passion. Tennis wise, in college, I hope to improve my doubles game and form strong relationships with my teammates. Bonds between teammates, on and off the court, is an important dynamic in college tennis that I would love to be able to expand on. I am a good candidate for the team because I always demonstrate a positive work ethic. I practice hard and never give up; I have a strong mental game on the court and hold out until the very end. And while the individual aspect of tennis is very important to me, something that I think makes me a more than suitable teammate is my eagerness to cheer on others. I always encourage my teammates and believe that if one person on the team is not successful, then the whole team isn't. Every member of the team, regardless of their rank, is important; I reflect that message through how I talk, treat, and think about my other players. I am different in character, athletics, and academics from others because I continue to push myself and find ways to improve, even when others feel it is not necessary. Whether it is in school grades or a tennis match, I walk away from the experience, positive or negative, with something to take away. I never leave without reflecting on how I did. Often times, when I win a match, I continue to think about how I could better my weaknesses to ensure another. I am the kind of person who puts meticulous amounts of time and effort into whatever I put my mind to. I carry this attribute to every situation.
