Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Malika Warnick. I’m a Senior at Moses Lake High School in Moses Lake, Washington. Last season (2021) I played #1 singles for Lakeland High School (4A) in north Idaho. I went undefeated and won our district tournament. At the state tournament in Boise, I advanced to the third round.
My dad introduced me to tennis when I was 5 years of age while we were living in Saudi Arabia. I played my first tournament at the age of eight in Dubai. It was intensely hot, and I barely knew how to keep score, but I recall loving the competition and being very exciting to be around so many young players from all over the world.
As a high school freshman in 2019, I was number one singles on the girls’ varsity team at Moses Lake High School. During my freshman year, I made it to the semi-finals at our end of season District tournament. I also won the Conference Coaches Award.
In early 2020, I won the Pre-season Varsity Club Tournament at the Yakima Tennis Club. I began 2020 as number one until the season prematurely ended due to Covid.
School has always been a priority for me. I've managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA. I'm committed to working hard in school because I value learning and it's fun to be successful. I took AP European History as a sophomore and AP United States History as a Junior. During my free time, I enjoy are playing my guitar, snow skiing, hiking, camping, swimming, participating in the school band, doing a bit of gaming, and of course I love hanging out with friends.
FYI, our family income level is so low because my Dad has been unable to work due to health problems so my mother has been the sole income earner as a substitute teacher.
