Personal Statement
When I began my track career at Pleasant Valley High School in the seventh grade, I never knew how it would influence and impact my life. My coach asked me to try pole vault and high jump knowing I had never even attempted them before. I watched videos, attended camps, went to private lessons, and slowly track came to be one of my passions. With the help of my coaches and my family, I began to see improvement. My eighth grade year, I was the middle school indoor track high jump state champion, and this cemented my desire to continue pushing myself to become better. As a junior, I was able to be a leader for indoor and outdoor track by working outside of regular practice, encouraging others, and maintaining a positive attitude, and I am looking forward to continuing those responsibilities as a senior member of those teams. Qualifying for the Regional Junior Olympics for pole vault and high jump this summer allowed me to see so many gifted athletes, and I am even more determined to continue my track career. I understand the highs and lows of competing, and I know how perseverance and attitude can lead to success. Yes, failure is hard, but I know the failures taught me to not give up. It motivated me, it made me question how badly I wanted to be better, and it taught me to respect not only my sport but my teammates and my coaches.
As a high school senior, I am driven not only on the track but also in the classroom. I am an honor student, and I have a strong desire to excel. I am not afraid to work hard or go beyond what is required, and I will conduct myself in an appropriate manner both on and off the track. My main goal is to find a college where I can have the academic challenges, coursework, and professors to prepare me for my career field. Having completed several dual enrollment classes, I already understand the rigor and expectations of college classes and am prepared to succeed. I will be serving as the president of Student Government my senior year. Being an SGA officer this past year has prepared me for the tasks I will face, and the confidence and skills will make me an even more well-rounded college freshman. I am also a varsity cheerleader, Senior Editor of the yearbook, and a member of several other clubs.
As a Christian, my values are constantly guiding my decisions, involvements, and reactions. I am dedicated to making my college journey a successful one, and I pray that will include my participation on a track team. I would love the opportunity to not only do what I love but also become a vested member of a team that works together for the betterment of the entire group. Track has taught me so much about life. It has taught me how to deal with failures and successes, how to set goals and work toward them, and how to invest in relationships with others. I am thankful for my coaches, family, teachers and teammates for consistently supporting me and preparing me for my life after high school.
