Personal Statement
I was a competitive gymnast for many years but it finally became to much for my body. When I retired we did a google search on what are good sports for former gymnasts. Diving came up as well as Pole Vaulting. I live in a small town and there was no place to try diving. I decided I would give Pole Vaulting a try. So I contacted the track coach and she said great, but she had no idea how to coach it. She gave me the name of a coach an hour away and so began my journey. Little did I know it would become my passion. September 2018 I went to my first practice. I was hooked instantly. Being able to get to practice was a problem. I got my hardship license and drove myself twice a week. Finding a place to practice has been difficult since I started. Not having someone to coach me at my meets is very challenging. I found a coach more local and was able to practice at his school briefly. I still had to be on my own at meets but I was making it work. By 2019 I was back to driving an hour to practice. I am thankful I had that facility and those coaches. Even though they were not at my meets I learned a lot from them and they helped me every way they could. I was setting new PR's for myself at almost every meet.
One of the coaches kinda took me under his wing and I entered some indoor meets in 2020 and things just really started to click. I qualified for the New Balance Indoor National Championship just before Corona hit. The night before we were to leave the meet was canceled. I didn't get any spring meets but I've continued training. I can't wait to get to compete again.
I give a lot of credit to competitive gymnastics for my work ethic and body awareness. I am a really hard worker and I am super competitive. I feel like I would be an asset to a college team because I am coachable. I come with a good attitude, I give my best and I don't give up.
