Personal Statement
Athletic.net profile and results: https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=10930176
As a scholar athlete, I am dedicated to performing at the highest level both on the track and in the classroom. I value strong leadership, team unity and sportsmanship. I am very coachable and do my best to maintain a spirit of fairness in everything I do. I find the challenge of athletics to be very motivational, and I am eager to continue my Track & Field career in college.
I am currently a Senior at Notre Dame High School where I have participated in three different sports: Basketball, Cross Country, and Track and Field.
My first year of high school as a freshman was in 2016-2017. In Track & Field, I finished the season as the WBAL League Champion in Long Jump and the 4x400M Relay, and as the Notre Dame JV Track & Field MVP. In Basketball, I was the winner of the Ron Williams Scholarship Award for my performance as the starting small forward on the JV Basketball team.
As a sophomore, I was again voted the JV Track and Field MVP, and finished as the WBAL League Champion in Long Jump, Triple Jump, 300MH, and the 4x400M Relay. I was most excited that my four first place finishes helped my team to our second consecutive WBAL Championship. As the team captain and starting forward on the JV Basketball team, I was also voted as MVP.
As a junior, I decided to run Cross Country to help build my strength and endurance for Track, and I also stopped playing basketball to avoid any injuries. Running Cross Country was definitely a challenge, however I pushed myself throughout the season and our Varsity team qualified for the California Central Coast Sectionals (CCS), which was very exciting. After the season, I received the most improved award from my team and coaches. In Track I set new personal records in 300 Meter Hurdles, Triple Jump, 400m, and 800m. I met my season goal by qualifying for the sectional meet. At the end of the season, my teammates voted me as co-MVP of the Varsity Track Team.
I know I have not yet reached my full potential, and I am excited to see what my Senior the season will bring!
As a student, I am focused and determined to always do my best. I am advanced in STEM courses and hope to major in one of those fields in college. Outside of school, I enjoy photography and coaching youth basketball and middle-school track. I was also elected to my school's ASB (student council) and I value any extra time spent with my family and friends.
I believe in teamwork, commitment, and hard work. I value strong leadership. I am excited to continue learning and training to improve my performance in the classroom and on the track. I am motivated to ultimately find a college program that will fit my strong work ethic both academically and athletically.
