My name is De'Jah Robinson and I'm a senior at Saint Mary's High School in California. I have been running track since I was six years old. I've had many successes and failures throughout my experiences with track and field that has made me that student-athlete I am today. My success started when I was with 3M track club from 2007-2013. I was able to qualify for the Junior Olympics four times (2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013). My experiences at these track meets gave me the opportunity and understanding of what it takes to compete at a higher level. While competing at these meets, I came in seventh in the nation in the 400m and second in the nation in the 4X400m in 2010.
The setbacks have also been a huge part of my drive to succeed. Having a minor injury (torn meniscus) at the beginning of my freshman year also helped me realize how much I love the sport, the competition, and the opportunity to push myself to new levels. After working very hard to come back and get back on pace, I was able to qualify for State my Sophomore year in the 300m hurdles.
I also believe another asset I bring to the table is my leadership. I have had numerous leadership roles off the track as well, being involved in organizations like the Panther Pack (a club that changes the mentality of the student body in regards to sports that are not as popular as football), being an elected member of Lasaillian Student Leadership (LSL), and being involved in Jazz Ensemble. All these have given me strong leadership skills that I carry to my team and have also helped develop strong time management skills and the ability to balance several commitments well and be successful.
My goal in college is reaching new levels in track and field and exploring new aspects of my major. By majoring in Kinesiology, my track performance will improve because I'm more educated on different parts of the body. Vice versa, track gives me an athletic perspective for why and how things occur. My personal experiences will make me a great asset to the team, because it has taught me how to overcome obstacles and make the best out of every situation. I will represent your school to the best of my ability and the passion I have for track and field will make me a success.
