Personal Statement
My interest for running came relatively recently when I joined the middle school cross country team, it started as just additional conditioning for the other sports I was enrolled in. Early into 2016 cross country season was when I really realized how much running inspired me. Being part of a team with such devoted student athletes has pushed me to devote as much as possible to compete at the same level as my team mates, not only on the track, but in the classroom as well. Since my teammates were my biggest inspiration during the season, my biggest challenge was when our team was unable to qualify for the state meet and I was sent to compete as an individual. This experience really helped me grow as a runner and gain confidence in myself as an individual as I had always thrived on the team aspect of the sport and pushed myself to not let the team down. Competing as an individual presented a unique set of challenges, to run for myself and still represent my team even though they were not there.
Running has really taught me teamwork, but in addition to this, more self-motivation, initiative, and dedication, due to the individual aspect of the sport. By senior year my goal is for our team to qualify for state, allowing me the opportunity to compete with the support I strive on. In addition to this, I am seeking for a top rank in the state within the next three years, and following this, to attend a college fit not only for my goals academically, but also those athletically. Robust team ethic, determination, a competitive mindset, and modest personality are traits that set me apart from others and would make me a strong fit for any team.
